Pigeon house

The Pigeon House is located in Sperados Village on Tinos Island, Greece.

The main idea of the design is based on the interplay between public and private spaces. We distinguished the two forms from each other while ensuring that the private and public spaces would harmoniously combine. Additionally, through the design, different spaces were created that can be functional either separately or united. The land plot also influenced the creation of different levels in both the interior and exterior spaces.

The main goal of the design is to create a residence that is in harmony with the natural environment and the traditional architecture of Tinos Island. Materials and construction methods were carefully chosen based on local traditions.

For instance, we reconstructed the existing boundaries using a traditional method called "xerolithia" (xerolithia are stone walls made with stones extracted from the earth and combined without concrete).

The name “Pigeon House” is inspired by the final shape of the floor plan, which reminds us of the graphic design of a pigeon. Pigeons are a strong element of Tinian tradition, as there are 700 dovecotes all around the island.
